Newsletter for May and June

Our theme for July is Let’s explore the garden in Einstein room and What does your garden grow in Darwin and Faraday.

Could we please ask parents/carers to inform the office of any changes to your contact details or emergency contact details to ensure we have current details.

We would be grateful if parents/carers using the buggy shed could collapse the buggy as it can get difficult for parents to take their buggy out. We would also like to inform you that Forest School will be starting week beginning 10th July. Further details to follow.

Names

Einstein
In Einstein this month we have been looking at the children’s favourite books. In our first week we read ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. The children bought in their bears from home and we went on a bear hunt. In the second week we looked at ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ where we took part in lots of sensory play such as fruit tasting, fruit printing, ice play with fruits.
In our third week we read ‘Guess how much I love you’ and we celebrated this story by having a tea party with family

Darwin
Darwin have been learning about traditional tales. We dressed up as our favourite characters. We grew beanstalks for the Jack and the Beanstalk story. Also we made gingerbread men and explored with a variety of materials when making houses for the three little pigs. We also released our butterflies which we observed through the whole butterfly life cycle.

Faraday
The children really enjoyed reading lots of traditional tales such as Hansel and Gretel where children created potions in the role play area. We enjoyed making our gingerbread house and acting out the story of the 3 billy goats gruff. The children took part in science experiments and made predictions about which material would be best to use to make a bridge.

April News

Our theme for June is my favourite toys in Einstein room and Toys and Dinosaurs in Darwin and Faraday.

Names

Einstein
We have been learning about different styles of music and listening to Indian and Spanish music. We have been listening to how instruments sound and exploring a band area with keyboards, drums, xylophones and musical mats.

Darwin
This month in Darwin the children have been learning about life cycles, We have learnt about chicks, caterpillars and beans. Darwin have enjoyed watching our caterpillars grow as well as planting our bean and watching them change.

Faraday
Throughout the month the children have been learning about life cycles we have looked closely at frogs, sunflowers and humans learning about how we grow. The children have been super busy looking after their sunflowers and measuring how much they have grown.

Thank you to our amazing team for coming in on another Saturday to create new learning areas ready for our next traditional tales and story time theme. Your dedication towards our children’s progress is valued.

March News

Our theme for March was Animals and to complement this our children visited the farm, as well as going to the local park on a bug hunt.

Science week was a busy week, the children participated in many investigations as well as visiting the Science Museum and the Royal Observatory Greenwich.

Einstein
Baby room has learnt about different types of animals. We went to the park and fed the ducks. We also had a visit from a mobile zoo and enjoyed a sensory sessions where we could feel the different textured animals. For science week we have explored with magnets and have engaged in activities based on Old Macdonald.

Darwin
This month our theme has been animals and we have enjoyed various animal activities. We visited woodlands farm where we saw pigs, cows, chickens sheep and baby lambs. We also enjoyed a visit from a mobile zoo where children got to see and touch different animals. Our vet role play area has been enjoyed by all as well as our under the sea and jungle role play areas.

Faraday
This month the children have been continuing to learn phonics each day. During science week the children were lucky enough to visit the royal observatory. The children have learnt about minibeasts and where they live. We made minibeast pizzas! We have learnt about animals that live in cold places and talked about how they keep warm as well as nocturnal animals and enjoyed linking in the story Owl Babies.

February News

Message from the Owners

The theme people who help us has been a very busy one. All rooms have taken part in trips and we have been lucky to have the police and firefighters visit the nursery to further develop our knowledge and understanding of their roles.

Our theme for March is Animals and we have many visits booked as well as all children celebrating science week.

Einstein – Baby Room
Einstein have been exploring and learning about colours, shapes and different textures. We had different colour days and dressed up in that colour, We have also made sensory bottles and explored with shaving foam, rice coloured sand and shape printing with a variety of colours. We were also able to sit in the fire engine, hear the siren and look at water pour out from the hose.

Darwin -Toddler Room
Darwin enjoyed learning about people who help us. Within the month we have learnt about the theme through role play, trips and visits from local emergency services. Darwin have particularly enjoyed the police visiting and they were able to play with the radios and dress up in their hats and vests. We have also enjoyed buying stamps at the post office and receiving the post from the postman every morning.

Faraday – Preschool
Over the month the children have been looking at the theme people who help us. We have enjoyed walking to the post office and have had a go a writing some letters of our own. We had a visit from the local firefighters who brought the fire engine and parked it outside the nursery from children to be able to sit in and explore the different things inside.

Einstein
Look at me move- Einstein
January’s theme for our baby room has been ‘look at me move’. The babies have explored the different ways they can move by rolling, crawling, walking and dancing. Our babies enjoyed learning the song ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’ and it’s now favourite song amongst our babies. Our older babies are becoming confident in using the stairs and they have all enjoyed discovering the outdoor garden by climbing the steps and coming down the slide.

The topic for February is Texture, Colour and Pattern, Shape

Darwin
Transport- Darwin
Choo-Choo! So much fun has been had in our toddler room with children experiencing different modes of transport. The children went on a train to see what they could see and become train spotters for the day. One of our focus books was ‘Whatever Next’ so children made rockets and watched them lift off into the sky! The children have explored in different role play areas such as an airport, train station and garage and this helped to build their knowledge on understanding the world. Children have created vehicles using 2D shapes and lots of number recognition has taken place within the number sorting garage.

Our doors are open…

Thank you to all our children, parents and staff for making our first few weeks of opening such a pleasant and rewarding experience.

October News

The nursery work is now complete and the new playground looks fantastic.

The baby rooms (Einstein) consist of a sleep room, physical development room, sensory room and a large room containing all the key areas of learning and development.
The toddler room (Darwin) has a large stage which currently has the home corner and is also where our plays will take place. The areas of learning are clearly visible and the children will have free flow access to the natural garden as well as the monkey puzzle playground.
Preschool (Faraday) are lucky to have a beautiful market area where children can role play buying and selling. The children will also have free flow access to both outdoor areas. Children will take part in phonics sessions and Spanish lessons.

Davinder will plan and deliver science lessons for Toddlers and Preschool in the teaching room, which also has an interactive whiteboard for all children to access.

Open days at Monkey Puzzle Sidcup were a great success. Parents and carers were impressed by the nursery and what it had to offer. Children enjoyed playing in the mud kitchen, sitting in the sensory room and playing with the dinosaurs in the small world.

We have also employed a full time manager Sarah Smith, who has a wealth of knowledge of the Sidcup area and has previous experience of being a nursery manager. We welcome her to the team. Please visit our team page to find out more about the staff.
